The Next Avatar

These are the trailers of Christopher Nolan’s latest film Inception – among a handful of movies with an original story line I can’t wait to see this July. Angelina Jolie’s Salt is the other one. Hollywood’s summer has been largely bland this year with sequels, remakes and adaptations. So we had Iron Man, Shrek, Karate Kid and Toy Story and helpings of old standbys like Sex and the City 2, Robin Hood and A-Team.
So here’s Inception with a fresh concept which is already captivating fans and the industry. Especially since the director, Chris Nolan has a track record of crafting blockbuster entertaining films which are slick and smart. Nolan, don’t forget, gave us The Dark Knight. Inception has been described by its director as a sci-fi thriller set in the architecture of the mind.
The film reportedly has a sizable working budget and the Leonardo DiCaprio – Chris Nolan team is to watch out for. No spoiler alert here so I won’t dwell more on the film.
If I were to compare Inception with Avatar, with a collection of $2.7 billion worldwide, Avatar leads the box-office charts, pushing aside Harry Potter, Spider-Man and other franchise adaptations. Avatar drew colossal audiences and fans were passionate about the groundbreaking experience it offered. We didn’t know anything like the world of Avatar existed before we saw it on screen. But once we saw it, we were hooked.
With its original storyline and technical excellence, Inception will go head-to-head with Avatar. Either way, we’ll get to experience originality on screen again. Yay!
While you are mulling over Inception, you may want check out The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon and Emily Brunt. The film is directed by George Nolfi (he wrote the scripts for The Bourne Ultimatum and Oceans Twelve). This is his first as director.
Briefly, Bureau is the story of an ambitious politician (Damon) who meets a ballet dancer (Blunt). But just as he realizes he’s falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep them apart. The mysterious men are the agents of Fate itself. The politician must risk everything to defy Fate and be with her. Bureau is slated for release in August in the US.
Here’s the trailer of Bureau. And here’s to happy months at the movies.Inception Trailer
